Bowls and boxes come in many different shapes and sizes from a wide variety of tree species. All wood is collected from trees that have naturally fallen (ex. hurricanes), responsibly sourced, or reclaimed from wood that's been rescued from the fire pit.

One never knows what one will find when woodturning. Even trees have secrets. This bowl started off as a very plain, uninteresting piece of wood. Inside, however, was another story. Maple plate. 24cm dia x 3.2cm tall.

There are lots of different kinds of maple trees. This keepsake bowl features western maple with a lovely burled inset in the lid.
A branch from the massive oak tee came down in a wind storm. The trunk of the grandmother tree is easily 5' in diameter. A local arborist trimmed off some other branches to rebalance the tree and take the stress off the root system. This is the first of the bowls from those trimmings. Naturally ebonized and buffed to a soft gloss wax finish, this bowl honours the grandmother tee with a new life.
